About mulberry silk

What is mulberry silk?

Mulberry silk comes from silkworms fed exclusively on the leaves of the mulberry tree. The result is particularly long, even and fine fibres – the finest silk in the world. Grade 6A denotes the best quality level: long fibres without irregularities and a deep, pearly lustre.

Momme – the number that counts

Momme (mm) indicates the weight of the silk: 1 momme = 4.34 g/m². Our pillowcases are 22 momme (≈ 95 g/m²) – dense enough for durability and protection, light enough to stay cool and soft. A 50 × 70 cm pillowcase therefore weighs around 70–78 g. You can weigh it yourself.

Why silk for hair and skin?

  • Less friction: the smooth charmeuse surface lets hair glide instead of rubbing – less frizz, fewer split ends and less breakage, longer-lasting curls and blowouts.
  • Less moisture loss: cotton absorbs moisture and care products from skin and hair; silk draws away considerably less.
  • Fewer sleep creases: the skin isn't crumpled or “pulled”.
  • Temperature regulation: cool in summer, comfortable in winter. Breathable and hypoallergenic.

Silk vs. satin

Satin is a weave – and in shops almost always polyester. It shines, but it hardly breathes and traps heat. You can recognise real silk by its weight, its cool, “living” feel and the burn test: silk chars and smells like hair; polyester melts.
